The International Property Awards Gala Ceremony, hosted in London on 7 December 2015, saw Festivals Edge, MidCity Property Group’s student development in Hatfield, walk away with the prize for the Best Residential Redevelopment in Africa. The International Property Awards is one of the most prestigious and widely recognised programmes in the world and receives more than 2 000 entries from over 110 countries across the globe.

The Awards are judged by an independent panel of 70 international industry experts and focuses on design, quality, service, innovation and commitment to sustainability.

“We are very happy with the success that this development has achieved” said David de Villiers, Director Property Development at MidCity. “We have spent hundreds of hours designing every detail of the building, from the interior design to the liveability of the units and its common facilities to ensure that the students have a well balanced and fun experience living in our building. It is very important to not always focus only on return on investment but also to be able to deliver a product that you are proud of, and that you will want to live and work in yourself.”

It is one of our strategic objectives to develop iconic landmarks and I would like to commend our development department with this wonderful achievement” says David Hewer, Chief Executive Officer at MidCity.  “A development of this nature, whilst not only meeting the stringent criteria as set out by the panel of judges, also makes available an affordable accommodation solution. This development will assist in creating much needed student accommodation in an around the University of Pretoria.”

Festivals Edge forms part of The Edge Student Living, a sub brand of MidCity that focuses on the management of student housing. The project is being developed in partnership with the Feenstra Group and comprises in excess of 370 student beds which will be available for occupation in January 2017.
